PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said he had suggested that Japan and Qatar explore investment opportunities in Kelantan.

“I suggested to the leaders of those countries to also consider Kelantan as an investment location, alongside other states,” he was quoted by Bernama as saying.

He said he made the suggestion when he visited the two countries recently.

Anwar said he considered it his responsibility to do his “utmost to help the people” despite not getting the mandate to form the Kelantan government.

He also expressed hope that the PAS-led government would ease the land acquisition process to enable large-scale development of the agriculture industry in the state.

Last year, former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said there was potential for Kelantan to receive investments from Japan, South Korea and the Middle East.

He previously noted that there were not many foreign factories in the state except for ROHM-Wako Electronics from Japan.

Mahathir, the economic adviser to the “state government four” or SG4 – a grouping comprising the four PAS-led state governments – also said the four states must be “business-friendly” to attract investments.

Apart from Kelantan, the other three states are Kedah, Terengganu and Perlis.

TVET education

On technical and vocational education and training (TVET), Anwar said programmes are set to be enhanced to address the shortage of 30,000 engineers in the country.

He also emphasised the importance of focusing on artificial intelligence (AI) technology to keep pace with current demands.

Anwar said AI technology would also be integrated into the curriculum for students in tahfiz schools or TVET programmes.

He said the government would provide equal opportunities for Kelantanese youths to excel in these fields.
